The media started paying attention to her at the age of seven when the Houston Chronicle endorsed her for a local comunity performing art award: The Sammy. Beyonce moved on to Parker Elementary School, a 'specialized' music school in Houston in the fall of 1990, and joined their choir. She attended Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and sometime later moved again to Alief's Elsik High School.

Beyonce father stepped up to the plate, resigning from his job to setup a boot camp for the girls training and to manage their training. The group was cut to four, with LeToya Luckett joining in 1993. It took then three years, and a failed deal with Elektra Records before the girls signed a contrac with Columbia Records.

The group’s success came at a price as a Roberson and Luckett filed a lawsuit alleging breach of contract over the apperance of Farrah Franklin and Michelle Williams in the video of 'Say My Name', that made it clear that they had ben replaced. Franklin also left the group after five months citing poor relations with fellow group members. On top of the media frenzy and attacks against Beyonce for instigating the breakup and the end of a long term relationship with her boyfriend of seven years plunged Beyonce in to depression
